Editing & Consulting

  • Are you looking for help putting together a newsletter or creating copy for your website?

  • Need help compiling and organizing a manuscript?

  • Do you want to work with someone who can see the big picture of your project, but can also pay attention to the little details that will make it stand out?

As a freelance writer and editor, I love collaborating with you to make your message and creativity shine. Whether it’s crafting a personalized business newsletter, brainstorming lyrics for a catchier song, or capturing a poet’s unique voice in a collection of poetry, I’ll work with you at whatever stage you’re at to bring your voice, your product, or your creation to fruition!

My recent editing projects have included everything from line editing individual poems and nonfiction texts, to compiling and arranging book-length collections of poetry and self-help nonfiction. As a freelance writer, I’ve helped construct newsletters for small businesses and non-profit organizations, as well as written website copy for arts and medical providers.

“Jen’s care and love for language is magnetic. Working with her makes me pay close attention to each word in the lyrics I’m writing. Her feedback on Trying To Be Free unlocked something in the song that I knew was there, but didn’t know how to reach.”

— Von Bieker, Songwriter, Trying To Be Free, from the album Long For This World

Structural & Developmental Editing

Are your core message(s) persuasively reflected in the content’s framework and arguments? Have you sufficiently acknowledged the correct challenges of your target audience — and what they need to hear to take action?

As a developmental editor, I will ensure that your content or marketing materials are creating compelling connections with your readers’ perceived needs. I can also provide strategic editorial alignment of related content assets across different channels (web, social, and print).

Jennifer Stewart Fueston has edited the English translation of my Georgian language book “365 Keys for Success”. The editing process lasted several months in 2021 during which I closely communicated with her. Jennifer constantly amazed me with her professionalism, efficiency, and dedication. It is because of Jennifer’s editing talents my book reads easily in English.
I am forever grateful to Jennifer.

— Ramaz Giguari, author of “365 Keys to Success”

Copy & Line Editing

These services include everything from fine-tuning the tone of voice in the writing, to syntax and word choice issues, to strengthening transitions in the persuasive logic of your writing. This is an area where you will be especially glad to have a Pushcart Prize nominee and widely published poet giving in-depth attention to your content. I will make it shine and make it sell.

Poets have been my favorite writers for a while, and after hiring Jen to do some editing work for my websites, I can also say poets are my favorite editors. I appreciate Jen’s ability to do global edits, line edits, and copy edits. I trust her input at every stage of the editing process, and recommend her to other writers, businesses, and everyone for whom words matter.
— Charlotte Donlon, Author of The Great Belonging: How Loneliness Leads Us to Each Other.

Proofreading

In the final stages of content development, I will find the hidden typos, last grammatical errors, and ensure that everything is ready for online publication or print.

“As an editor and content consultant, Jen always surfaces surprising insights and compelling line-edit suggestions. She has maybe the finest attention to detail I have ever gotten from a creative collaborator. Her work to synthesize and distill what is essential in the copy or message — and ruthlessly rid me of what is not — is consistently amazing. It is also humbling, given that I have almost 20 years of marketing, PR, writing, and editing experience. She always sees what I missed. Always!”
— Michael Dechane, Principal, Reify Marketing
